Back to Services
We can provide local transportation within Salem and the surrounding areas at no cost. For transportation outside of 100 miles, we charge a reasonable rate to cover gas and employee expenses.
For remote cases from other states, a funeral director would be performing the transportation and they would charge you directly. See Instructions for Funeral Director or Pathologist. The funeral director may need to charge as much as $6000 for their services. If this is your desired option, these extra charges should be included in your funding strategy.
We offer standby services for individuals who are known to be gravely ill and are expected to experience legal death very soon. Our trained staff members (Anatomical Research Specialists) can travel within the United States. We would then work with cooperative local funeral homes to perform the procedure (similar to cryonics organizations), or if the location is nearby enough, we may be able to perform the procedure in our vehicle.
Estimated Pricing for Remote Cases
First day of standby: $3,650
Each additional consecutive day: $1,200
These estimated prices are for one staff member. For two staff members, the cost would double. A second staff member might be necessary in situations where there is no one available to provide adequate notice about imminent legal death, requiring more coverage to enable a more rapid response. Please note that prices may vary based on specific location (affecting travel time, hotel costs, rental car fees, etc).
We can provide free local advocacy in Salem. Standby services in Salem, if required, would be on a fee-for-service basis. The estimated cost is $1,200 for each day of standby, because there would be no cost for travel.
We recognize that standby services are not the right choice for everyone. Some may prefer to work with other qualified local professionals such as Pathologists or Pathology assistants and have the brain shipped to us for long-term preservation. We're happy to share our recommended protocols with other qualified professionals. While our employees are trained in brain preservation procedures, we are willing to share them with others for no charge. However, we wish to note that these procedures require proper training and cannot be safely or effectively performed by untrained individuals.
